There are also cabinets you could install over toilets or where your bathroom allows. In your bathroom cabinet, you can store toiletries, beauty products, medicines, towels, and more. You no longer have to deal with clutter once you have the right bathroom cabinet installed.
The Tools You Need
No matter what type of cabinet you have, the tools needed for bathroom cabinet installation are pretty much the same. These are the items you need to gather before we get into how to install a bathroom cabinet.
- Stud finder
- Keyhole saw
- Hacksaw blade
- Construction adhesive
Most bathroom cabinets now come pre-assembled. This means all you need to do is make sure there is a spot in your bathroom that can hold the cabinet. This is what most of the work will involve. What we are trying to create is a hole in the wall and a wood frame into which the cabinet should slide in.
Using your pencil, lightly mark the wall to outline where you would like your cabinet to hang. Use your stud finder to locate any studs that lie beyond the outline.
Take your keyhole and cut 4-inch square holes on either side of those sides. Do not cut deep. You want to avoid hitting the drywall and any wires or pipes. Remove the cut-out and pick up your flashlight to inspect the opening. If there are any obstructions, contact your plumber or electrician so they can move those wires or pipes around if necessary.
If everything looks good, it’s time to get into the nitty-gritty of how to install cabinets in bathroom. You will need some assistance to proceed with this step. Somebody will need to hold up the cabinet against the wall and check the cabinet for level and plumb. Once you are happy with the position, trace the outline on the wall with a pencil.
Use your keyhole saw to cut along the line, then remove the drywall cut-out. Now you have the first step down of how to install bathroom cabinet.
You may have a comfortably sized cavity in your wall for the bathroom cabinet, but it is not yet time to put the cabinet inside. You will need to install a frame or wooden blocking to properly secure the cabinet.
Take a 2x4 piece of wood that is horizontal and slide that into the wall opening. Hold it level and saw it to follow the length of the opening. Do the same for three more pieces until you have four pieces that should frame the opening in the wall.
To attach the wooden blockings, coat one side with construction adhesive and place it in the opening. Hold the frame in place by screwing it into the drywall.
A crucial step in how to install bathroom cabinet is not to place the entire cabinet in your wall. It is actually better to remove the doors to prevent them from being damaged while mounting the cabinet. This especially important if the cabinet door has a mirror attached to it. You may scuff, crack, or completely break the mirror while mounting the cabinet. This also applies to any shelving that can be removed.
Take the back part of the cabinet and fit it inside the frame that you just installed. Press the edges flush against the wall. Drive the drywall screws through the holes inside the cabinet and secure them into the wooden blocking. Before you fully tighten the screws, check with your level that the position is correct.
Once you are certain the cabinet is secure, you can put the doors back. Re-attach the cabinet doors carefully. Make sure you do not bend the hinges. Add the shelves and stock up your cabinet. Brush off any dust and wipe off the mirror.
You now have a fully installed bathroom cabinet!
